When it comes to making an investment in your relationship, most people understand that time and commitment to one another are valuable elements. But what about the cost of relationship counseling? While the term investment may not seem to fit or sound sensible, a financial investment in therapy can aid in how a couple learns to make the most of their time and commitment to one another. This investment helps with navigating through some of life’s difficulties.
That said, relationship/marriage counseling is not typically covered by insurance companies. The reason? Insurance is set up as a way to determine payment based upon medical necessity. That means, a mental health diagnosis – such as depression or anxiety – that can be treated with a proven, therapeutic modality. Couple’s issues are not considered diagnosable as a medical necessity.
